At St. Paul Parish part of our mission is to form disciples of Christ. Formation requires time and effort similar to a sculptor sculpting his masterpiece. God desires to make us saints! Masterpieces! We are never too old to learn more about our awe-inspiring Faith; we are never beyond growth! While still on earth our formation must continue lest we become comfortable and stagnant in the spiritual life.
Remember that you can come to all or only the sessions that interest you. No need to sign up. It is also a time to meet people and share our faith as we learn more about the beauty of our Church’s Tradition.
Below are the upcoming Sunday Faith Formation Topics - our "Coffee and Catechesis." Also listed here are summaries for each week.
This month has a wide variety but all will be seen through the lens of Tradition and Apologetics. So the focus of each week is listed but will include teaching on how we know what we know and also how to defend the truth when we are confronted by skeptics.
Mar 8 - Why Confession? Can’t I just tell God I’m sorry?
How often have we heard someone ask these questions? Learn why the sacrament of Penance is not simply a nice “bonus” but is required for the Christian to grow spiritually. Our Tradition teaches us not only its necessity, but how beautiful is this opportunity of divine mercy.
Mar 15 - What makes Mass the Holy Sacrifice? Anaphoras, Eucharistic Prayers and the Roman Canon
What is the most important part of the Mass? How did we get the prayers that we pray? Learn this as well as how to better enter into the mystery of the Mass by delving into the Tradition that has been handed on to us: the source and summit of our faith.
Mar 22 - Is Something “Traditional” Because it is Old? Is Something Better Because it is New?
What makes something “Traditional” with a capital “T?” Learn to distinguish Sacred Tradition from the small “t” traditions of the church. How do we discern legitimate development and reform from heresy and false teaching?
Mar 29 - “From King to Criminal”: Highlights from the Passion According to St. Matthew
As we prepare for Palm/Passion Sunday next week, we will take a journey through St. Matthew’s Passion Narrative. The drama, the betrayal, the sin of the world coming to bear. But also the love, the sacrifice, the triumph of the Cross. Growing in our love of Scripture will help us grow in love with Christ.
