Encouraging the Culture of Encounter with Jesus Christ, His Church, and All People
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Join us for 33 Days to Morning Glory In conjunction with our Sunday morning Faith Formation sessions, I invite every parishioner to join in for a
Do-It-Yourself Retreat. For many it is hard to get away for a true retreat even for a whole day let alone a weekend or an entire week. As part of our parish spiritual renewal (remember RENOVATIO!) we are offering this opportunity. This retreat is based on preparing oneself for Marian Consecration which is a time honored devotion in our Church. It brings us closer to the Mother of God who loves to not only show us her Divine Son, but she holds our hands along the way. This is a 33 day long retreat but can be done from home. The actual retreat, with its readings and prayers will begin on Nov. 5, so we have time now to get people ready for it. The retreat ends on Dec. 8 (the Solemnity of Mary’s Immaculate Conception). Please come to this weekend’s Faith Formation Session (October 21) at 9:30am in the PAC. This is an orientation meeting where we will go over details and help people prepare to begin the retreat. If you cannot make it to that session but still want to participate, do not worry; there is still time. Please call the rectory and we can assist you. I am looking forward to journeying with everyone toward Morning Glory, which is Christ’s grace shining to light our path.
Listening Session on Issues of Sexual Abuse in the Church In speaking with a number of parishioners privately about the recent revelations of sexual abuse in the Catholic Church, I want to give an opportunity for people to voice their concerns, opinions, and questions in a truthful and charitable way. Other pastors who have held similar sessions have told me they were helpful for people to share their thoughts and emotions in a healthy context so they can find help, peace, and healing. I do not pretend to know the answers to questions that may be asked, but I hope it is a time we can rely on God together as we seek His guidance as a church. This listening session will be Sunday October 28 at 9:30am in the PAC. For those unable to come or who want to discuss this privately, my door is always open. May God bless all those who suffer from any form of abuse. May we strive to foster a culture where these grave sins never happen.
