Encouraging the Culture of Encounter with Jesus Christ, His Church, and All People
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Happy Ascension “Thursday Sunday”! Forty days after the Resurrection, our Blessed Lord ascended into heaven to sit at the right hand of His Father, so that ten days later on Pentecost the Holy Spirit would descend upon the Apostles. In our Diocese this liturgical solemnity is moved to Sunday. So, while the math is not as precise, even so, we rejoice in the great feast of the Ascension and prepare for Pentecost the next weekend.
Pentecost Next weekend will conclude the Easter Season with the celebration of the Descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles. Liturgically we wear red to signify the fire of God’s Spirit that is kindled in us, and, by our cooperation with His grace, should grow into a blazing fire of love to spread the Gospel. Providentially we have a special blessing in that we will be welcoming in the Catholic faith a new member! Moses Morgan will receive the sacraments of Confirmation and Holy Communion becoming a fellow Catholic. Furthermore, he is already planning on carrying that fire on a mission trip. At the end of the month, I will give him a chance to share with you where he is going and why, at the Masses. I will also ask you to consider supporting him with prayer and even a financial contribution if possible.
Next Weekend Faith Formation Join us for Faith Formation when our presentation will be “YOUTUBE Theology: Catholic Engagement with Contemporary Media.” As Catholics we should all be theologians. I do not mean we all get degrees or are academics, but our church teaching is theologically rich. All of us can learn to “do theology” and apply it in our daily life. In our current culture which is information rich, but formation poor; with focus on supposed scientific fact to the detriment of wisdom; emotionally preoccupied while intellect and will are snuffed out. The church gives us the remedy which is the love of God founded in the person of Jesus Christ, who is the way, the truth and the life. This is our theological approach. Join us to learn some fundamental theology and yes, we’ll watch a few entertaining YouTube videos.
