Encouraging the Culture of Encounter with Jesus Christ, His Church, and All People
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Still Waiting Patiently and Faithfully We still wait patiently and faithfully for any changes that may come regarding our parish celebrating the Extraordinary Form Mass. With the recent restrictions that Pope Francis has implemented, Bishop Malesick is still discerning on how best to respect what the Holy Father has mandated while still providing for those people who are nourished by the usus antiquor (the ancient usage). Recently in Cleveland, St. Elizabeth of Hungary Parish was converted into a shrine at which the EF Mass will continue to be celebrated. The shrine would be administered by a priest from the Institute of Christ the King, which is a religious order dedicated to the celebration of the ancient usage of the Mass. The question for us is how people can have access to that Form in our area. Some ideas are floating around but it is very possible that Mass would not be celebrated any more at St. Paul’s but somewhere else (hopefully not far away). Other questions include is it going to be a shrine? who is going to celebrate the Mass? How is the new place supported? What is the time frame to transition? Unfortunately, I do not have any definitive answers so we will continue to wait patiently and faithfully for guidance from our bishop.
Heart of the Shepherd Campaign Speaking of our local shepherd, I would like to give an update on the Heart of the Shepherd Campaign. Your sacrifice continues to contribute to the renovation of our diocesan seminary. The updated and remodeled rooms for the seminarians are complete, and the last portion to be completed (I’ve heard they plan for the end of this year) is the chapel itself. I have seen the new rooms and facilities, which are quite nice (so much better than when I was there, “hurumph, hurumph”). You have contributed to the very real needs of our future priests. And you may remember that because we hit our parish goal for the campaign, a significant amount returns to us for parish projects. Currently we have received $115,000 back from the campaign!!! And we are not done yet! Keep being faithful in your pledges and that number will continue to grow. Now that we are deeper into the campaign, we can start making more practical plans on how we will spend that money on the projects of an electronic sign, sound upgrades, and a sanctuary renovation. Thank you again for your generous hearts which are making the heart of a shepherd campaign a great success!
