Encouraging the Culture of Encounter with Jesus, Christ, His Church, and All People
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Soon to begin our Centenary Celebration! If you haven’t got your tickets yet for the September 22 dinner in Boeke Hall, be sure to call the rectory. This will be the opening day to a year-long celebration, which will include the opening of a time capsule in October, liturgical anniversaries, a concert series, a visit from Bishop Perez for our Feast Day in January, and much more! Be sure to keep an eye on the bulletin for upcoming events.
For a while now, our Centenary committee has taken suggestions and making plans for the upcoming year. Soon will be posted a nice reminder calendar for everyone to make sure you can participate in the events. Also as we get ready for the upcoming events there will be need for participation from parishioners for the more immediate preparation of some of the events. If you are interested in donating your time to decorate, advertise, or be present at the event to offer hospitality to visitors please call the rectory and let us know so we can plan accordingly. Thank you for your willingness to serve and honor our parish.
“Theology on Tap” Yours truly will be presenting at “Theology on Tap” Wednesday, September 11 (doors open at 7:00pm). At the time of this writing I do not know the location, but by the time you read this it should be announced so listen for the announcements or check out the website. Hopefully the Indians will be getting themselves in place for a wild card spot or maybe even division champ! (Remember I wrote this weeks ago). So my topic is called, “The Most Liturgical Sport: A Spirituality of Baseball.” Come on out to enjoy a brew, discuss theology, and have some fun. Cost and other details are in the bulletin.
“Theology in the Clouds” Speaking of Theology combined with different things, a new initiative sponsored by our parish will be “Theology in the Clouds” - Clouds of pipe smoke that is. The evening of the last Friday of the month, September 27 at the Pipe Rack on Main St. and Wilbeth will be yours truly offering a brief presentation on the connection between different types of smoking and the three parts of the soul. Attendees will enjoy a pipe or cigar during the discussion. More details are forthcoming.
An Additional Apostolate Last month I wrote about what I am calling a “parish apostolate” - We have welcomed a group of area homeschool families to use part of our building once a week. They are called “The Way” homeschool co-op. Well, we have added another Apostolate called “The Nativity Educational Co-op.” It is a separate group of people following the Montessori method of teaching, and will meet in a few of our classrooms three mornings a week.
The vision for both these apostolates is for them to contribute back to our parish through some monetary means, but also through their presence and service. We will see them at daily Masses and they will be invited to participate in parish service projects.
Sincerely in Christ,
Fr. Pfr
