Encouraging the Culture of Encounter with Jesus Christ, His Church, and All People
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
9:30am Mass Canceled Nov. 6 Just a reminder that those who normally attend the 9:30 Mass will need make other arrangements for Mass on November 6. I apologize, but this is the unfortunate reality. I am still the only priest in this part of the diocese who can celebrate that form, and the few others who can have other responsibilities on Sunday mornings. I will be back in time to celebrate the 5:30pm on November 11.
The reason for my absence is that I am in Chicago again at Mundelein Seminary for a Conference. This is the next installment of a continuing education program in order to minister to those in need of spiritual healing. The first was back in January. I will have two more after this, one in March and the final one next October. I do not like being away from the parish like this but it is for a good purpose. Thank you for your patience. Know of my prayers for you all while I am away.
I would also like to thank my brother priests, Fr. Sal Shevchuk, Fr. Sam Ciccolini, Fr. David Verbsky and Fr. John Burkley for stepping in to offer Masses in my absence.
Memento Mori As we enter the month of November with All Saints and then All Soul’s Day, we continue to pray for the holy souls in Purgatory. The month of November is dedicated to praying for our faithful departed. Please note the opportunity to purchase memorial candles in memory of someone. The 8:30 Mass on Wednesday Nov. 23 will be offered for those people specifically. You may call the rectory for details.
The Book of the Names of the Dead is near the Sacred Heart Statue if you would like to write the names of loved ones who have died. They will be remembered in all the Masses this month. It is praiseworthy to visit the cemeteries where our loved ones are buried as they (and we) await the resurrection of the body on the last day. Remember we are all going to die. As Catholics we do not fear death, but embrace it with the courage and hope that Christ gives to us by HIs grace. Even as we grieve, even as we are saddened by the reality of sin and death, we know Christ has conquered death! May we live and die well! That the Triumph of Christ be shown forth! How wonderful God is that for His faithful ones, life is changed not ended! We have the opportunity to help them with our prayers. Let’s take advantage of these graces.
