Encouraging the Culture of Encounter with Jesus Christ, His Church, and All People
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Happy Epiphany! The Christmas season continues as the wise men arrive at the Christ child in the manger! This feast calls us to reflect on how God incarnated and thus takes on our humanity and is connected to every human person, not just one group or nationality. Through the wise men, He is revealed to the nations. The wise men encounter the Christ Child and are changed, so they go home by a different way as we hear in the Gospel. We too should be changed every time we encounter the Lord in Holy Mass. You will notice next week our wise men statues will move to the other end of the narthex to show how we are to be changed by our meeting the Lord.
This weekend in honor of the Epiphany will be the blessing of chalk for families who wish to bless their homes. More details will be given at the Masses, but I invite all to participate in this great custom. Why not bless our homes as well as ourselves as we begin this new year.
Steel Drum Band Concert Check the bulletin for more details, but there is a steel drum band concert open to everyone this afternoon in the Parish Activity Center. It will be a unique way to ring (or drum) in the new year. In the band are a couple of my priest friends stationed at St. Sebastian, Frs. Valencheck and Simone. Come check it out!
Our Feast Day and other events Coming Soon! The weekend of January 25-27 is our Eucharistic Devotions and Sunday January 27 is our Feast Day. A schedule of events will be forthcoming. But also on that Sunday will be a unique basketball game. At St. Vincent-St. Mary High School Lebron James Arena will be Diocese of Cleveland Seminarians vs. Young Priests of Cleveland. I must still be considered young, because somehow I made the priest team. There will be more details coming soon, but come on out and support vocations by cheering us on.
