Encouraging the Culture of Encounter with Jesus Christ, His Church, and All People
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Parishioner Outreach
Ever since Covid, many parishes have put extra efforts in maintaining contact with their people, especially those who are disconnected, ill, or homebound. We are doing our best as well. The first line of communication is well… everybody. Each of us is our brother’s keeper in the sense that as Catholics we are meant to share communion with each other in Christ. This means sharing in the sacrament of the Eucharist yes, but that means showing that communion outside of Mass. Through our compassion, reconciliation, patience, and just being present to others, especially those who suffer. If you know of friends or family in our parish or maybe only loosely connected but could benefit from reconnecting with the community, don’t be afraid to reach out to them and let them know the parish cares about them. We have a small team of folks who can help. Maybe they would like to receive Holy Communion or want a priest to visit. Perhaps just someone to talk to or pray with.
Also if you have a love for Jesus and sharing His joy with others consider joining our outreach team. They make calls to homebound (and visit if you are comfortable doing so), send cards and simply be a Christian presence and connection to our parish. If you are interested call Dcn. John at the rectory. So often it is the simple things we can do that God uses to bring His grace to those in need.
Courage / Encourage Chapters in the Diocese of Cleveland
Over the past decades and especially in recent years there is growing confusion about who we are as human persons made in God’s image. Due to original sin, our relationship with God, and with others is compromised; and even our bodily and interior lives are dis-integrated because sin clouds our intellect, weakens our will, and disorders our passions. This includes our sexuality, which is a gift from God and ordered to human flourishing, but for some people there are temptations that lead them toward same-sex attraction. Sadly there are voices in the culture and even within the church that bring great confusion as all of us journey together, whatever temptations we may face. The Church strives to accompany all who seek God. The apostolate of “Courage” is an inspiring ministry of great people seeking to love God. It is a support group for those who struggle with same-sex attraction yet strive to live the gift of chastity. There is a “Courage” chapter in Cleveland. “EnCourage” is a different support group for the family members of those with same-sex attraction. Handling the reality of same-sex attraction for individuals and families is difficult, with tension in relationships, confusion, even division and deep wounds. There is an EnCourage chapter in Cleveland as well. Recently another “Encourage” chapter began in the Akron area too.
