Encouraging the Culture of Encounter with Jesus Christ, His Church, and All People
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Faith Formation - Sunday January 21 at 9:15
We continue with our new monthly schedule of formative opportunities. Please join us on January 21 from 9:15-10:15 in the PAC as we delve deeper into the mystery of the Eucharist. To prepare us for the following weekend’s Eucharistic Devotions, I will give a presentation called, “The Mystical Body of Christ: St. Paul and the Eucharist”
how greater Eucharistic devotion can lead the Church forward.
St. Paul Feast Day, Eucharistic Devotions, and Eucharistic Miracle Display
Speaking of Eucharistic Devotion, every year we combine our parish Eucharistic devotions with the celebration of our feast day. The Conversion of St. Paul Feast is January 25, but as it is our patronal feast we move its parish celebration to the nearest weekend. So the January 27 and 28 Masses will be using the St. Paul prayers. To show our devotion to the Blessed Sacrament, we will have about ten minutes of adoration following Communion, and conclude with Benediction. This will happen at each of the three Masses on that weekend.
In addition we will have the Eucharistic Miracle Display from Friday evening Jan. 26 - Sunday afternoon Jan 28! See flyer in bulletin for more details. The church will also be open for extra hours during this time for people to make a holy hour.
The Waters of God’s Providence It was two weeks ago we celebrated the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord. And the waters of baptism have caused me to reflect on the issue of water here at St. Paul’s. The last half of December and into January you may have noticed Greenlawn Ave., the one-way street in between the school building and Jenkins Gym, was all tore up. The city was replacing water lines and it ended up causing a number of issues in our buildings. Everything from having the water cut off to certain parts of the campus to our need to replace certain parts of our plumbing system and even parts of the boiler system. To be fair, it wasn’t the city’s fault, their work was simply the catalyst to get some property repairs taken care of. But in God’s Providence, this is a good thing as we prepare to replace the whole boiler in the spring. Providentially the preparatory work for the replacement was also completed over this winter break. And further in God’s Providence it all happened while all the catechetical school kids were out, while Chesterton Academy and the home school co-ops who use our building were all on break! Even as providential as it has been, the Lord invites us to cooperate, and none of this would have happened without your generous donations to the property repair and capital improvements funds through the envelops every month. Furthermore, none of this would have gone as smoothly without our parishioner Denis Randall being available to facilitate the contractors working on our campus. Also, Joe Agosta of Agosta Plumbing has continued to do great work for the parish. Speaking of water, with the rain, there is a little leak in the roof we noticed. Well, pray that the waters of God’s Providence will continue to get us through!
