Encouraging the Culture of Encounter with Jesus Christ, His Church, and All People
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
No Vacation From Your Vocation Every spring when I was in the seminary, our spiritual director would always remind us before we went on summer vacation, “Men, there is no vacation from your vocation!” His adage reminded us to be ready for a summer that did not have the usual structures of the seminary for prayer time, class times, and other scheduled things that helped in our formation toward priesthood. We had to prepare for different and adaptable schedules as well as more “downtime,” always remembering that our focus was still on discerning our vocation and being faithful to God’s call. A true vacation is never a vacation from our growling in holiness.
This always comes to mind when I take a little vacation time. Thankfully I am on vacation with some priest friends, and it is helpful that we have each other to stay accountable to our prayers and the celebration of Mass even as we take some much needed R&R.
Please know that I am continuing to pray for everyone at St. Paul’s as I enjoy a lakeside view in Canada being thankful to God for all the rejuvenating graces of His Creation. God bless!
