Encouraging the Culture of Encounter with Jesus Christ, His Church, and All People
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
No Faith Formation on July 4 In honor of Independence Day, and also since I will not be in town, there will not be Faith Formation on this date.
Theology on the Rocks for July 18 However, the 3rd Monday of the month there will be faith formation but in a different format. We are hosting the Akron “Theology on the Rocks” in our Parish Activity Center. Please note the time change. Doors open at 7pm and the talk begins at 7:30. The talk is entitled: The Spirituality of Baseball - the Most Liturgical Sport. There will be alcohol available as well as light appetizers. A cover charge of $5 will be required.
Other Devotions Following Masses As we finish out the month of June our devotional prayer after Mass will be a prayer for religious liberty. In the past the bishops have designated this time as a “Fortnight for Freedom” as we prepare to celebrate our Independence Day. Religious liberty is still under attack in different ways in our country as well as Christians suffering persecution and even martyrdom throughout the world. We will pray for our brothers and sisters who are witnessing boldly and that we do the same.
As we move into July, often associated with the Precious Blood of Jesus (similar to the Sacred Heart for June) we will pray the Litany of the Most Precious Blood, which is a powerful prayer against evil.
These communal devotions, while not mandatory, are good to remind us that our spirituality ought to extend beyond the mere obligations of Sunday Mass. My hope is that these devotions inspire further growth in your personal lives as well.
Five Grand Jackpot Tickets We still have about 50 tickets left for the Five Grand Jackpot drawing. I just got mine and If you haven’t bought one yet, there’s still time. The fact is, the big winners are St. Paul Parish and Visitation of Mary Parish through the generosity of parishioners.
